Camelot
San Diego’s Leading Dealer of Camelot Carpet Mills: Quality, Service and Dependability
Choosing carpet is an investment that will most likely last longer than any other design changes in your home, and is still the floor covering of choice for the majority of American consumers.
Royalty Carpet Mills is headquartered in beautiful Irvine, California where they are the only West Coast carpet manufacturer that is vertically integrated throughout the manufacturing process. Starting with turning raw fiber into yard and then using a tufting facility to create undyed greige rolls, the rolls are dyed, dried and back-end with state-of-the-art finishing equipment. By controlling all aspects of production, Royalty can assure the highest quality products at the best prices, which equals the greatest value for our customers.
There is virtually no limit to the design possibilities in today’s styling, texture, color and value when it comes to carpeting. Your choices will be limited only by your imagination. Carpet is one of the most affordable floor covering options, providing excellent value along with the multitude of design options. Additionally, carpet is much easier and more cost efficient to replace than hard surface options. So if your tastes change after a few years, or you’re simply ready for a new look, your wallet won’t stand in your way.
Camelot Carpet Mills have propelled Royalty from a small distributorship to one of the largest residential carpet mills in the United States. From our initial West Coast concentration, we have gradually expanded our market areas to all corners of the United States and Canada, as well as the Asian and European markets.
Carpet is soft underfoot, easy on little feet and knees, prevents slips and cushions falls. Carpet is a natural insulator against the cold, and can reduce the cost of home heating and air conditioning. Carpet absorbs and contains noise, reducing and muffling footsteps and voices from room to room. Properly maintained, carpet has been found to be beneficial in trapping and holding onto allergens, and prevents them from re-entering the indoor air system. Every Camelot carpet is backed by the Carpet & Rug Institute’s Green Label Plus seal of approval.
Eco-Friendly
Camelot cares about the environment and takes great strides to be an environmentally conscientious manufacturer. From water and waste reclamation, energy co-generation and heat recycling to reduced atmospheric emissions and indoor air quality, they are dedicated to the manufacture of quality carpet, while ensuring they do not harm our environment in the process.
Camelot’s success continues as they strive to maintain our small company atmosphere, while staying close to their family of customers. They will continue to focus on the three areas that have helped sustain Camelot’s consistent growth: quality products, unsurpassed service and exceptional value.
The following are just some of the many ways that Camelot Carpet Mill’s is working for a better tomorrow.
Reclaimed Water
In 1996 Camelot Carpet Mills became one of the first businesses in Irvine, CA to connect to the city’s then newly-created reclaimed water distribution system. By using approximately 600,000 gallons of reclaimed water in the dyeing and manufacturing processes daily, we save over 150 million gallons of water per year. For this effort, we received the “Water Winner Award” from the Irvine Ranch Water District.
Reclaimed Water Re-Use
During the dyeing process, the dyestuffs are almost completely absorbed by the carpet and the post dyeing water runs virtually clear. We further clean it in a de-fuzzing process designed to remove any remaining nylon fiber. It is then returned to the Water District’s reclaimed water distribution system for further industrial use. Thus, the reclaimed water is used again and again for non-consumer purposes in a closed-loop environment.
Energy Co-Generation
A move that helped pioneer a new technology in energy efficiency was the installation of one co-generation engine in 1993, and two more a few years later. From one clean burning fuel – natural gas – we create steam for the turbines that generate electricity for our manufacturing facilities. The steam is then re-used to heat water for our dyeing equipment. Thus, one fuel source yields two types of energy – electrical and thermal. By generating our own electricity, we reduce demand on the local public utility company and the regional power grid. Another key benefit is that natural gas creates as little as one-twentieth the emissions of the coal or oil traditionally used to generate the electricity alone.
Heat Recycling
Heat recycling technology also came to us in the multimillion dollar modernization of our finishing line, which became operational in January 1997. The new system dramatically reduces energy use and eliminates tons of air emissions per year.
Air Quality
Historically, Camelot has been proactive in implementing environmental safeguards and in surpassing all environmental compliance regulations. In fact, we were named a “Clean Air Partner” with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (among the strictest environmental regulatory agencies in the USA) for achieving the 2004 target levels for NO2 (nitrous oxide) emissions This was all done five years ahead of schedule.
Indoor Air Quality Protection
All Camelot products exceed the “Green Label Plus” specifications for low emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) established by the Carpet and Rug Institute, by using the lowest VOC materials available in the backing process. Qualifying for this testing program means that we are committed to developing ways to minimize any adverse effects on indoor air quality.

In general, let one color take center stage. Use the complementary color as a counterpoint. Don’t allow it to compete with your central color. Bring in the complementary color through fabric & accessories – even a bowl of fruit. Toss in a sprinkling of white, black or taupe as a visual resting place for additional drama. Your home is your own personal paradise; don’t be afraid to express your individuality in color, texture and design.
Pronounced frih-zay’, this carpet style is the ultimate in laid-back and informal and is very forgiving in high traffic homes. The yarn is twisted so tightly that it curls over itself at the ends. This shows off its nubby appearance, which is what makes this style so clever at hiding footprints and vacuum marks. This style also is excellent for reducing the appearance of seams.
The yarn used in cable styles is usually longer and thicker than that of any of its counterparts. Cable carpets feel very comfortable underfoot, their casual appearance is extremely inviting and they are best suited for low to medium traffic areas.
Style
Saxony carpets (also referred to as “plush”) are very traditional and create a formal, elegant atmosphere. The velvety finish of these products is very luxurious, and the shading created by the light hitting the fibers differently is highly sought-after by those who love this look. Saxony carpets show footprints and vacuum marks more than any other carpet style.
In a textured product, the yarn is twisted tightly during the heat-setting process to create a finished carpet with a relaxed, casual appearance. Textured carpets do a much better job of hiding footprints and vacuum marks than saxony carpets, and are very popular in today’s active homes.

Sometimes referred to as “berber”, loop products can either boast a random or patterned appearance. Loop styles are extremely durable and are available in either solid colors, with berber flecks, or in multi-colored patterns. Loop styles hide traffic patterns in hallways and throughways very well, however they can make seams more visible.
These patterned styles use a cut pile and loop pile combination to create a variety of pattern effects. The patterns can be very small, such as a pin-dot appearance, or they can be very large scroll, floral and geometric patterns. The larger the pattern, the more carpet needs to be purchased to allow for the pattern to be matched at the seams. Cut and loop styles are excellent performers, and stand up to the most active of households.
Quality
Choosing carpet is an investment that will most likely last longer than any other design changes in your home, and is still the floor covering of choice for the majority of American consumers.
Although carpet can be produced from of a variety of fiber types, over 90% of carpet produced today is manufactured using a synthetic fiber – either nylon, polyester or polypropylene. While both polyester and polypropylene have found their niche in the marketplace, the industry accepted leading fiber system is nylon.
Latex is a synthetic compound that adheres the tufted carpet to the secondary backing. Camelot uses only the highest quality latex, which provides a finished carpet with superior dimensional stability and a tuft bind that greatly exceeds industry standards.
Secondary backing is the back side of the finished carpet. It has a waffle-like appearance and is instrumental in combining with the strength of the latex to provide the ultimate in tuft bind and dimensional stability. In general, the smaller the space between the “waffles”, the higher the “pick” of the backing is, thus insuring the highest stability of the carpet.
Controlling all aspects of carpet manufacturing, from yarn processing through to finished carpeting, allows us greater flexibility throughout and enables us to react quickly when the need arises. Camelot’s commitment to supply you with the finest carpet products available demands premium fiber, no polyester and never olefin.
Like a family recipe handed down from generation to generation, the Royalty recipe for premium carpet has never changed. Start with quality ingredients, and end with a quality product. In an ever-shrinking environment of quality, our commitment is your assurance that the beautiful products we provide are truly beautiful, all the way through.
